Coaster Laser Cut Files

Final Coaster laser cut files. I saved 3 separate versions in case printing them both together is too large. I still plan to cut these out of wood but I'm fine with them not being too thick as from what I've looked at its harder and probably more expensive to find thicker wood panels. I've thought about using something like a wooden cutting board but I'm not sure if that is allowed. The red on these images seems way lighter as compared to the pdfs so hopefully that's not an issue. I'm still not sure if the files are formatted properly so I can only hope. I'd like to have feedback on whether I should print both in one go or do them separately on different pieces of wood.

Coaster Render

Here is the first render of my heart coaster. I am essentially done but I still need to sort all of the layers and make a proper file for 3D printing. Since I am going to straight up print it I decided to add a holder shaped like a heart to help support and hold the puzzle. Hopefully everything has been done correctly up until this point. I had trouble making a render involving the puzzle pieces as they would barley show up in render view so this is the best I can do. I'm planning to use wood as my material so hopefully Ill be able to find something that works, looks nice, and is sturdy.

Coaster Final Concept

I ended up going with the puzzle design as I felt it would be the easiest to model, also it’s just really cute. Material wise I’d like to go with wood but i’m not sure what type to get or if I’ll have the money for it. If I can’t do wood I think i’ll go with a thick cardboard or maybe plastic. I’d also like to paint the final product and if I’m unable to do engravings for whatever reason then I might just paint a design on it. I want the coaster to be thick enough so the pieces can stay together but not too thick incase it gets too heavy and falls apart. With the dimensions I want it to feel sturdy but not too big.

Voxel Model Render

This is the refined and rendered version of my original Voxel model. I ended up adding a floor texture and making an actual scene out of it with headphones and a wood texture to invoke a table. Though I will say that the curves of the wire look pretty wonky but I'm not sure if I can get anything better even if I tried. I also added a button to the middle of the controller as well as refining the actual shape in general by trying to round it. When it came to lighting, I added two sources, one cool toned and one warm toned. I added the cool tone because I like the purple colour being created by the light bouncing onto the controller. I learned a lot about how the program works and how to best optimize it while still retaining good results.

Voxel Model

This is a render of my first ever model in Rhino, being a voxel model. It was pretty fun to do and for the most part I raw dogged it without any planning, but I think it turned out pretty good. Originally the assignment was about how your summer went which is why I chose to do a controller. I pretty much only played video games over the summer so there's that.
